Transition To Paradise

Leaving the USA (Not as Tourists)

7:00 A.M.  The girl behind the counter was from Boston and this morning was her second day at the counter. We showed her our passports and received our e-tickets. I promptly asked about Chuckie's ticket and got a dead-faced response.

Note: Chuckie is a fixed male cat that I took in off the sidewalk in 1992. He has been a faithful companion and would not make it with another owner. If left in the states at a shelter, he would be definitely exterminated. There is no other recourse but for him to live with us in the Bahamas. Andria has also grown to love him, as he does her. She has no children and Chuckie is her companion as well.

The woman behind the ticket counter informed us that “NO PETS” were allowed on this flight. When confronted again about our dilemma, she went back into the security area and said her supervisor would not allow Chuckie on the plane.

Andria and I were looking at each other, as there was no “Plan B” for this kind of response. After all, Chuckie had his legal permit for entering the Bahamas, his medical check-up certificate from the veterinarian in West Palm Beach. He would soon be more legal in this new country than I would be.
